Classification: PUBLIC REFERENCE
Comprehensive glossary of technical, military, and cultural terminology used throughout the Galatean Saga universe. Terms are presented alphabetically with source attribution where applicable.
Note: Many terms carry different meanings or connotations depending on whether they originate from Terran or Galatean sources. Dual perspectives are provided where relevant.
Cross-Reference Protocol: Terms may appear in multiple contexts. Verify usage against primary source documents.
Atmospheric Gradient Chute (The Chute)
Source: | π΄ Terran | Status: Terran Term
Description
A kilometers-long corridor of magnetized plasma and refracted ion haze used to transport cargo and shuttles through Earthβs atmosphere. The field regulates drag and temperature, allowing smaller vessels to descend without the stress of full planetary entry.
access_file βCortical Implant
Source: π΅ Galatean | Status: Standard Term
Description
A neural interface embedded in every Spacer, often installed before permanent memories form. It connects the individual to the Network, creating a shared consciousness and data stream that is fundamental to Galatean existence.
access_file βEcheryia
Source: π΅ Galatean | π΄ Terran | Status: Contested Term
Description
A lunar city that was destroyed by Terran forces during the Independence Wars. The acrid smoke from its burning traveled through maglev tunnels and lingered for years, becoming a visceral memory of the conflict for older Spacers. Echeryia had been founded before the Galatean breakaway as a Terran city-colony on the Moon and had been the epicenter of the revolt that started the breakaway.
access_file βGalatea / Galateans
Source: π΅ Galatean | π΄ Terran | Status: Contested Term
Description
The nation and people who broke away from Earth to build a society in space (city-colonies on the Moon and Mars). They are characterized by their reliance on the Network and adaptation to life in vacuum and microgravity.
Contested Term
The International Alliance of Earth (IAE) does not recognize Galatea as a sovereign nation. They call the Galateans by the derogatory term “Spacer”.
access_file βGreat Famine
Source: π΅ Galatean | π΄ Terran | Status: Contested Term
Description
A historical event during which Earth cut off supply ships to the colonies, stretching rations thin and causing widespread hunger among the populations that would become the Spacers.
Contested Term
International Alliance of Earth (IAE) does not admit targeting logistic chains and pretend the Spacers were the ones that imposed a blockade first.
access_file βInternational Alliance of Earth (IAE). Later Designation: International Terran Alliance (ITA)
Source: π΅ Galatean | π΄ Terran | Status: Contested Term
Description
Definition: A massive, hegemonic coalition comprising Earthβs major industrialized nations, primarily concentrated in the Northern Hemisphere and Australia.
Internal Dynamics: Rather than a monolithic world government, the IAE functions as a tense alliance of distinct sovereign states. While united by a common military and economic framework, member nations retain their individual cultural and political identities. This structure frequently leads to internal bureaucratic friction and power struggles among member states regarding resource allocation and military strategy.
access_file βNetwork (The) / Later designation: Verse, (The)
Source: π΅ Galatean | Status: Standard Term
Description
The collective digital and sensory connection shared by Spacers via their implants. It allows for the sharing of tactical data, emotions, and consciousness, acting as a “chorus” that prevents isolation.
##See Verse, (The)
access_file βPraeviarium
Source: π΅ Galatean | Status: Standard Term
Description
The foundational philosophical-legal doctrine of Galatea, originating in the early independence era and later formalized as the Coreβs guiding creed. It defines the Moonβs nation-identity as a collective project oriented toward the preservation, protection, and advancement of humanityβs future, often referred to simply as the Dream.
access_file βProtected Person
Source: π΄ Terran | Status: Standard Term
Description
A legal status under Earth’s laws, referencing the Geneva Conventions, which grants rights to prisoners of war. The IAE Tribunal specifically denies this status to Spacers, classifying them as hardware instead.
access_file βSapient Bio-Construct
Source: π΅ Galatean | π΄ Terran | Status: Contested Term
Description
The legal classification the IAE attempts to apply to Spacers. This designation defines them as sophisticated organic machinery rather than human beings, stripping them of human rights and allowing for dissection and experimentation. In opposition with the status of “Protected Person.”
access_file βSpacer
Source: π΄ Terran (Origin) β π΅ Galatean (Reclaimed) | Status: Identity Term
Original Terran Usage
A derogatory term used by Terrans to dehumanize Galatean colonists. Implies that individuals are merely “equipment” designed for space operations rather than human beings with rights and autonomy.
Intent: To establish psychological distance and justify military actions against civilian populations by framing them as tools or property rather than people.
Reclaimed Galatean Identity
The rebels embraced “Spacer” as a title of pride and identity, transforming the slur into a statement of defiance. To call oneself a Spacer is to assert autonomy, humanity, and the right to exist independently from Earth.
access_file βSurinam Station
Source: π΅ Galatean | π΄ Terran | Status: Contested Term
Description
Location: Situated near the Asteroid Belt but not inside it, positioned outside the Hungaria group (a cluster of asteroids closer to Mars). Its placement creates jurisdictional ambiguity between Galatean Sector 4 (Asteroid Belt Command) and Sector 3 (Mars Defense Command).
Age: Surinam is ~70 years old in 2253, predating the current Galatean sector system, which was implemented 30 years ago. It was once an important relay and refueling station for space traffic between Mars, the Asteroid Belt, and Galatea.
access_file βTerrans
Source: π΅ Galatean | π΄ Terran | Status: Contested Term
Description
The inhabitants of Earth which are citizens of the International Alliance of Earth.
Contested Term
The inhabitants of Earth, no matter their nation or allegiance. In Galatean culture, they are often viewed as brutal and morally corrupt, while Terran propaganda views Spacers as “monsters” or “machines”.
access_file βVerse, (The) / Early designation: Network (The)
Source: π΅ Galatean | π΄ Terran | Status: Contested Term
Galatean Designation: The Verse
The collective digital and sensory connection shared by all Spacers via cortical implants. More than mere communication, it is experienced as a “chorus” of shared consciousness that prevents isolation and enables deep understanding between individuals.
Origin: The term originated from Commander Gordon Monihan’s testimony at his tribunal, where he described the connection as feeling like “the whole Universe.”
access_file βWall of Defiance
Source: π΅ Galatean | Status: Standard Term
Description
A memorial located at the Galatean Military Academy, listing the names of Galatean heroes.
access_file βWater Test
Source: π΅ Galatean | π΄ Terran | Status: Contested Term
Description
A psychological experiment devised by Dr. Hayden. It involves tipping a water bottle to see if a Spacer instinctively saves the resource, which Hayden interprets as proof of “resource preservation programming” rather than human empathy.
Contested Term
The majority of the later Galateans think the original water test is an urban legend.
access_file βXenopsychology
Source: π΅ Galatean | π΄ Terran | Status: Contested Term
Description
A specialized field of science led by Dr. Hayden, dedicated to studying the minds of “non-human” entities. It is used by the IAE to pathologize Spacer behavior and justify their dehumanization.
Contested Term
Xenopsychology is not recognized as proper science in Galatea.
